Equi-Thane Superfast™ 210cc

Vettec SuperFast is ideal for foal adhesive shoes and applying customised support. In addition, it is also great for raising the heels, correcting the angle of the heels and making medial or lateral extensions. Vettec SuperFast is also excellent for minor hoof repairs. This 30-second hoof glue can be used for minor repairs, levelling of hooves, heel raises, customised fittings and extensions in foals. Super Fast allows farrier, vet and owner to protect the hoof when the condition of the hoof wall does not allow traditional hoof shoes to be nailed. Temporary shoeing with Super Fast, together with Equi-Pak, provides tailor-made support in cases of laminitis or other lameness, when nailing is too painful. At the same time, it offers the possibility of improving the angle of the heel or creating medial or lateral support. Temporary shoeing with Super Fast can also be used for trail running and occasional training. It also prevents the need to nail traditional horseshoes to fragile and brittle hoof walls.

  • Initial set time: 30 sec
  • Small hoof repairs and toe cracks completed quickly
  • Helps to hold thin, brittle hoof walls together
  • Create a custom shoe in minutes
  • Apply Super Fast to the hoof for medial or lateral support or to change the angle of the heels.

PLEASE NOTE BEFORE APPLYING PRODUCT

  • Vettec products are best used between 65° and 85° F (18° to 29° C). Temperature will affect the set time.
See Cold & Hot Conditions below.
  • Areas of wetness or bleeding should not be covered. Once healed, commence using products.
  • Super Fast™ can be applied with the shoe on or off, but will bond to the shoe. A coating of oil or petroleum jelly to the top of shoe will prevent this from occurring. Take care not to get any on the area of the hoof being repaired.
  • Product may not bond to hooves that have been heavily treated with products containing: oils, grease, pine tar, etc. In these instances a light denatured alcohol scrub and drying should be performed to ensure adhesion.
  • The following procedures are best-accomplished wearing latex or rubber gloves.
  • Do not burn or “Hot Shoe” this product.
  • Use only Vettec mixing tips.

COLD CONDITIONS (Below 65° F)

  • Failure to keep the hooves, shoes, and product warm will dramatically slow the cure time. Example: At 32° F the cure time advances to 4-5 minutes.
  • Do not microwave the cartridge or place it in water. Store the cartridges in an insulated “cooler” warmed with microwavable heat pads or 1 to 2 tightly capped gallon jugs filled with hot water.
  • In freezing temperatures, 32° F or less, the shoes must be warmed to keep condensation from forming on them and preventing the bond.

HOT CONDITIONS (Above 85° F)

  • Product will set very quickly. To slow the set time, if needed store the material in an insulated cooler with 1 or 2 freezer packs.
  • NOTE: During hot weather conditions, product may cure at a higher temperature. If applying close to sensitive tissue, product may be applied in layers to reduce heat.

CARTRIDGE PREPARATION

  1. Open the cartridge. Insert cartridge into dispensing gun.
  2. Before attaching the mixing tip, equalize the cartridge by squeezing out a small amount to ensure that both sides are dispensing evenly.
  3. Attach mix tip by pressing tip on to open cartridge. Secure locking collar over the top of the attached mix tip.
  4. When finished, do not release the pressure with the lever on the back of the dispenser. Remove the mixing tip immediately, discard and apply the cap. Secure the locking collar over the cap to store. The pressure can now be released.
  5. For additional applications, re-equalize the cartridge and attach a new tip.

HOOF PREPARATION

  1. Trim and balance the hoof capsule as normal. Remove any weak or unattached hoof wall & clean out the white line area if compromised.
  2. NOTE: Only if hoof is oily, wipe the affected areas with a cloth moistened with denatured alcohol being careful not to saturate the hoof. Do not use acetone!
  3. Have all materials ready before proceeding to the next step.
  4. Dry hoof thoroughly using a heat gun for 30-45 seconds. Do not overheat. Keep heat source approximately 6 inches away from sole. NOTE: All hooves contain natural moisture and must be dried exactly in the manner described above. This step is critical for the product to achieve the appropriate bond to the hoof.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  1. Hold hoof with sole facing up and starting at one heel and ending at the other heel, dispense Super Fast in a continuous bead creating a shoe appropriate for the size of the hoof.
  2. Wait until Super Fast has started to cool down before releasing the hoof, about 2 1/2 to 3 minutes. The material will be hard  before then, but won’t be completely cured.
  3. Rasp and trim material to the desired shoe size and to provide for proper balance and function.
  4. Additional layers can be applied for corrective shoeing changing heel angles. If the previous layer has become contaminated, rasp off the dirt and add more Super Fast.
  5. On slippery surfaces, rasp grooves on bottom for added traction.
  6. For horses that are turned out, in work, or have thin, brittle walls, we suggest creating a 1” rim cuff of Super Fast that ties into the ground shoe to accommodate the side to side shear forces & hold the wall together.

FOAL EXTENSION PROCEDURE
NOTE: This procedure is best done wearing latex or rubber gloves. For foals less than 30 days old, do not bring material up onto the hoof wall as this could constrict the growth of the hoof. Also, do not lock both heels in with the material.

  1. Follow hoof preparations instructions above.
  2. Hold the hoof upright and dispense a 1/4 inch layer of Super Fast around the hoof wall.
  3. Hold foot for 1 minute and then set down.
  4. Apply additional layers until the desired shape and length is achieved.
  5. Rasp and trim material as desired.
  6. Because of the fast set time of Super Fast, one mixing tip is required per applied layer. Make sure enough tips are available before beginning.

APPLICATION PHOTOS

  • Super Fast allows the farrier or veterinarian more custom options for foal extensions than traditional glue on applications.
  • Super Fast gives the farrier and veterinarian the tools to level feet, build heels and support the hoof wall.
  • Super Fast allows the temporary protection and support for unshod horses.
  • When nailing is not an option, a package of Super Fast and Equi-Build provides support and weight distribution for foundered horses with thin, shelly hoofs.

"I have used your products in several episodes of Animal Cops Houston. I used Super Fast on a mini, and I used Equi-Pak|CS on several sore horses... I've been using your products since they came out. I once showed a 2200lb Percheron at the Oklahoma State Fair with all 4 shoes glued on!... You guys have a great product! Keep up the good work!"

"I just completed a 25-mile endurance ride in the Texas Hill Country, on very steep, rocky trails. I hoped to get a completion with my barefoot, pot-belly horse (we didn’t ride much at all this summer, too hot!), never dreamed I would finish Top Ten place). Before the ride, we applied a Super Fast shoe and filled with Sole-Guard, and hoped it would get us through the first loop (15 miles) and back to camp where my hubby could touch up any product that got chewed off by the rocks. All four feet looked great at the first vet check, no touch-up needed. The second loop was 10 miles and we finished that with all four feet still protected by your wonderful products. The very best thing about our ride was how my horse watched his footing carefully, because he thought he was barefoot! No horseshoe nails numbing up his feet! He slowed on the rocks and picked up speed on good footing. Other than walking down the steep drops and some stretches of very uneven rocky trail, we trotted and cantered the whole distance. We didn’t announce that we were going barefoot with Vettec products, but some people saw my hubby applying it at our camp before the ride. Word has spread and I’ve gotten several emails inquiring about the products."

"Just wanted to say what a huge difference Vettec and Lynne Myers along with Joe Most have made to our foundered mare. She has been uncomfortable for many years! However, when Joe and Lynne came to do a workshop at my home, she became a new horse. They took one look at her and said "Yes, we can help her." She came out of the stall very slowly and painfully. Joe went to work and was very patient with her as she was too sore to stand for any length of time. With the use of Super Fast, Sole Guard and Equi-Pack CS, Joe was able to create 2 "new" hooves on her front end. The process was fascinating to watch! Joe took her toes down and with these 3 products he created what looks like a new sound hoof. With these great products from Vettec our mare is now much more comfortable and will continue to improve with the help of Joe and Lynne. When Joe finished with her, she was led back to the barn and guess what!!! She went back in a voluntary trot!! Yes she did!! And when the halter came off she trotted again and gave a nice little buck and a whinny!!! Have not seen that mare trot or anything for years. What an amazing transformation!! Our mare, Jewels, and I are grateful to Lynne Myers with her knowledge of these fantastic products as well as Joe Most and his knowledge and compassion for all horses. Lynne is not only full of info about these products, she gets right in there and shows you how to use them. Your horse does not have to be lame forever. Get in touch with Lynne and let her show you what products to use and how to apply them. Thanks again and look forward to seeing both Lynne and Joe the end of July to continue working with Jewels."

"Timmy is a 20 something warmblood gelding. Around the first of May he was diagnosed with a mild case of laminitis. Farrier John Turner decided on a conservative shoeing protocol that included Vettec Equi-Pak CS pours in both front feet. Timmy did okay for about 4 weeks and had a relapse with x-rays showing founder in both front feet. John wanted to make Timmy more comfortable and contacted me about using Vettec SuperFast on the bottom of the hospital plate. It was a success. Timmy not only became immediately more comfortable and stopped shifting his weight, John called and told me he turned and moved so easily it amazed him. I had a chance to see Timmy last week and he is doing well. He continues to move and turn comfortably with the EquiPak and SuperFast application. I will have another update in a few weeks. Great job John and thanks for your faith in Vettec products! These are the types of stories we love to hear. :)"

"Hi, I wanted to let you know that my horse and I completed 55 miles on rocks with a Superfast custom shoe and a Sole-Guard pad, in Ft. Stanton, NM. We came in second place! This event was an AERC Endurance Ride on extremely hilly, rocky trails in the Capitan Mountains of New Mexico, a long way away and different from the terrain at our home on the Texas Gulf Coast. Thank you Vettec for your products, which allowed me to ride these trails on my barefoot horse! Here are a couple tips we thought we'd share for anyone considering this package for their horse: When applying Sole-Guard after Superfast, use contouring plastic wrap to smooth the Sole-Guard surface, Wear latex gloves to apply Superfast, as it is especially hard to get off skin! Thank you again Vettec!"

"Chopper is a Jerusalem donkey that had White Line Diseases in his left hind and by the time I was called had infected 3/4 of his foot. I removed a 2" by 3" inch section of his 4" foot exposing the infected area. He was also treated with white lightning for a week until it was completely gone. Then I rebuilt his foot with Equi-Thane Super Fast laying two coffee stirring straws one on each side for drainage in case of infection. I then covered the area removed with Super Fast making a shoe, then packed his foot with Equi-Pak. We have repeated this every four to five weeks for six months now he is 100% healed. Thanks to Vettec, a great customer, a willing donkey and my experience as a farrier."
- Jack Brock, Master Farrier, Virginia

"A Huge thank you for Super Fast. It allowed me to fix a mare with ¼ inch to ½ inch deep White Line Disease all around both front feet plus crushed, under run heels. I was able to remove all the WLD plus correct the heels and angles in one session without even making her uncomfortable. Your product helped make her more comfortable that she’s been in a long while!"
- Jonathan Sills-Martel

"This is a horse (eventer) that came into one of my barns and had had glue on shoes for 2 years and was very uncomfortable on his feet and unable to show. I was immediately able to get steel shoes on with the help of Adhere and 4 nails progressing to steel shoes and nails only training and showing again. I knew it was a matter of time until the badly compromised hooves would require radical trimming of hoof wall as the integrity of the horn had been compromised by improper prep and application of the glue on shoes. Nine months later we reached that point, I removed all compromised horn and was left with no steel shoe options. I applied Super Fast to mimic a shoe and this horse hasn't missed a beat. Again, thank you and I will continue to use and recommend your products to other farriers."

What is Super Fast?

Super Fast is a 30-second all-in-one hoof adhesive.

Is the material safe to use?

Yes, there are no fumes or odors, and the material is nontoxic.

Does Super Fast give off heat?

Yes, but not as much as acrylics. The thicker the application of material, the more heat you generate. On large restorations, apply in layers.

How long does it take to set?

There are two set times. The first is at 2-3 minutes. At this point the material is weight bearing and the hoof can be put down. The final cure is 12-15 minutes

Can I nail into it?

Yes, because of the unique urethane properties, Super Fast will nail just like the natural hoof wall.

Will it load up my rasp?

No, the repair will rasp just like the hoof.

Can it be nipped?

Yes, it will trim just like the hoof and it won't be brittle like acrylics.

Does it have to be wrapped to cure?

No, Super Fast cures in the presence of air or wrapped.

Do I have to add reinforcing mesh tapes?

No, the material is strong enough without the need for reinforcing tapes.

What should I use to clean the hoof?

Normally, just nip, rasp, knife to good solid hoof structure and dry the hoof thoroughly using a heat gun or hair dryer.

NOTE: Only if hoof is oily, moisten a cloth with denatured alcohol, wipe the area being careful not to saturate, and then dry completely. Do not use acetone!

Can you medicate the material?

We do not medicate the material because we don't recommend covering up any site that may become infected. Let the site heal and then repair.

Can it be used to glue on foal extensions and glue-on shoes?

Absolutely, it works great! Use Super Fast.

Can I “Hot Shoe” with Super Fast?

No, we don't recommend “hot shoeing” with Super Fast.

Do I have to use a mix tip?

Yes, this will give you a much stronger material over hand mixing.

Do I have to use your tips?

Yes, they are designed to mix a urethane where the others are designed to mix acrylics. You'll get the equivalent of a hand mix if other tips are used.
